Questions
Frequently asked questions
When do I call 112 and when the GP?
Call 112 if someone's life is in danger, for example with chest pain, unconsciousness or severe shortness of breath. For other problems that can't wait, call the urgent line during the day and the out-of-hours GP service at other times.
Can I go to the out-of-hours GP service without calling?
No. Always call first. The triage nurse asks about your symptoms and tells you whether to come in, gives advice, or says it can wait until the next working day.
I'm on holiday in the Netherlands and fall ill. What now?
Call a GP nearby. GPs also help people who aren't registered with them if the care can't wait. In the evening and at weekends, call the out-of-hours GP service for that area.
How soon can I get an appointment?
For a regular appointment, usually within a few working days. Need it today? Call before 10:00 and the assistant will see what's possible.
Can I bring someone to my appointment?
Yes. A partner, parent or interpreter is welcome. Mention it when you book and we'll plan a long appointment if needed.
